The March Feature Drop introduced a system battery widget to the Pixel, but it’s not the easiest home screen object for people to add. To address that, Android 12 QPR3 makes it easy to find the “Battery” widget.
Previously, the battery widget was located under “Settings Services” in that main list with the same gear icon as “Settings” right above it. Settings Services is the app responsible for the widget and sees an update (22.214.171.1241250345.df -> 126.96.36.1992873485.sr) in Android 12 QPR3.
As such, there is now a dedicated “Battery” entry which sits quite high up in the list of widgets. (For most people, it will appear under “Android System Intelligence”, which is responsible for the Now Playing history shortcut.) It’s even paired with a more prominent blue lightning bolt icon, though it does look a bit like the old Accelerated Mobile Pages (AMP). ) Logo.
This dedicated category is similar to how “Weather” has its own category, even though the widgets are technically part of the Google (Search) app.
The new category of battery is available with Android 12 QPR3 Beta 3 and should reach stable users with the public release of the quarterly version of the platform next month. In fact, it might actually be the only noticeable user change (so far) after three beta releases.
