The public corporation founded last year to boost Alabama’s economy is looking for a leader.
Alabama Innovation Corp. had its second board of directors meeting last week at Techstars Alabama EnergyTech Accelerator in Birmingham, agreeing to create the CEO position.
The AIC aimed to promote innovation and entrepreneurship in technology and other fields, as well as work with the state government to develop programs and policies for economic development.
The board also approved its bylaws and a $10 million budget, with funding for the Innovate Alabama Matching Grant Program. It also provided for the incorporation of administrative and professional personnel.
Board Chairman Bill Poole, Alabama’s chief financial officer, said hiring a director will allow the AIC “to make significant profits to drive economic growth and ensure Alabama is marketed as a home for entrepreneurs to start and grow their businesses.”
