You do not have to resign yourself to a difficult schedule to meet.

Key points

  • Including a side hustle in your routine can be challenging.
  • Some jobs, like data entry or content writing, offer quite a bit of flexibility, making them easier to manage.

If it seems like everyone else you know is on the go these days, you’re probably in good company. The unfortunate reality is that many people are turning to side jobs to cover their rising costs of living in the face of inflation.

Of course, you may have a different reason for getting an extra hustle. Maybe you’re hoping to pay off your credit cards or save money to finally buy a house.

Regardless of your motivation, one of the biggest challenges you could face in the course of taking on a side hustle is fitting it into your schedule. But some side jobs are much more flexible than others. And if you don’t want to be cooped up at set times, here are some concerts worth considering.

1. Driving for a rideshare service

The more time you spend transporting passengers around the city, the greater the increase in income you will enjoy. But ultimately, it’s up to you to decide how many hours a week you drive people, and at what times.

If you’re a night owl, you might decide to log in for a few hours between 10pm and 12am a few nights a week. At that point, you may have less competition from other drivers.

Or, you may decide that you only want to work weekends, and that’s fine, too. The beauty is that you don’t have to commit to specific hours. You can adjust your schedule based on your commitments and social calendar on a weekly basis.

2. Data entry

Data entry may not be the most glamorous job (ok, okay, let’s just say it can be a bit boring). But often, home data entry gigs allow you to work at your own pace as long as you meet an eventual deadline. That means if you have some random downtime on a Tuesday night, you can work hard and then take the next few nights off if you finish everything.

3. Content writing

Producing content can be quite a lucrative job, and fun too. And while you will be bound by deadlines, you may find that some of the sites or blogs that hire you are quite flexible.

Let’s say you’re hired to produce three blog posts a week for a certain site, with each post taking an hour of your time. If those three posts are due every Sunday night at 9pm, you’ll have the option to tackle that job when it’s convenient. That might mean writing one post in the morning before work, doing a second on a free afternoon, and completing the third post over the weekend.

Look for a flexible job

Some people who have side hustle end up burning out because their schedules get too hectic. If you want to avoid that fate, it’s worth finding a side gig that gives you more flexibility. And these are just a few of the many options.
